Outside the rush hour you reach the departure hall in around 40 minutes. The train is less straightforward: from Rijswijk station you have to change at least once, usually at Den Haag HS, and even the quickest connection takes some 36 minutes before you have walked to the platform with your cases.

Your route and departure time
Rijswijk's position is genuinely handy: the A4 and the A13 both skirt the town, and the driver almost always takes the A4. From the Ypenburg interchange you head straight north past Leidschendam, Leiden and Hoofddorp towards the airport, where the motorway dips under the runways and taxiways at the Schiphol exit to reach the terminal.
The 47 kilometres take roughly 40 minutes outside the rush hour. During the morning rush (broadly 7:00-9:30) and the evening rush (16:00-19:00), the A4 between Den Haag and Leiden is a well-known bottleneck, and the journey can stretch to around 60 minutes.
If things snarl up near Ypenburg or the Prins Clausplein, the driver can drop down to the A13 and the N-roads around Delft, though in practice the A4 stays the standard line.
