The road runs almost invariably north over the A12 and A4. From the village you drive via the N209 to the junction at Bleiswijk, or take the N470 towards Delft, before merging onto the A4 towards Amsterdam and leaving it at exit 4 by the terminal.
Steadily driven, those 52 kilometres cost around 52 minutes. The fixed slow spots lie on the A4 between The Hague and Leiden and at the Prins Clausplein; in the morning crush the journey can therefore lengthen to about 76 minutes.
If the A4 is solid, the driver diverts via the A13 and the Ypenburg interchange. Because the village sits on the edge of the Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan region, it is often the first few kilometres to the motorway that go slowest; after that it flows.
