Your route and departure time
The usual route out of Amstelveen runs along the A9, which inside the town carries the local name Burgemeester van Sonweg. From the Beneluxbaan you join the motorway at the Stadshart junction heading towards Haarlem, switch to the A4 at the Badhoevedorp interchange and take the Schiphol exit straight afterwards.
That 15-kilometre stretch takes around 20 minutes outside the rush hour. During the morning rush (roughly 7:00-9:30) and the evening rush (16:30-18:30) the A9 between Amstelveen and Badhoevedorp can fill up, partly because of the ongoing widening works, and the journey can stretch to around 30 minutes.
If that happens, the driver can drop onto the southern route via the Legmeerdijk (N231) and the Fokkerweg (N232), which approaches the terminal past Schiphol-Oost. Starting from Westwijk or Bovenkerk, that southern variant is sometimes the quicker option anyway.
Worth knowing: the Stadshart exit has faced lengthy closures during the A9 works, so the driver may briefly route via the Ouderkerk exit instead. Book in the middle of the rush hour and SchipholRide builds that longer running time into the pick-up.
