Zwanenburg is so close to Schiphol that one of the airport's runways, the Zwanenburgbaan, is named after it. The village lies in the Haarlemmermeer polder just south of the Ringvaart canal, a mere 10 kilometres from the terminal; outside rush hour the drive takes about 14 minutes.
Public transport is the slow option here: a bus or a walk to Halfweg-Zwanenburg station on the northern edge, then a change at Sloterdijk. A fixed-price taxi skips all of that. From Zwanenburg the route to Schiphol is almost a straight line across the polder. You leave the village along the Zwanenburgbaan (the polder road that lent its name to the runway) or the parallel IJweg, then turn onto the N232 Schipholweg, which follows the edge of the airport grounds all the way to the terminal.
With clear roads the 10 kilometres take around 14 minutes; in rush hour, when traffic thickens near Badhoevedorp and the airport approach roads, count on about 22 minutes. Your driver knows the polder roads well and picks whichever side is flowing fastest to the right departure hall that day.
