People here travel a great deal, and Schiphol lies at the other end of the country: 166 kilometres, about 135 minutes outside the rush.

Your route and departure time
The ride from Hengelo crosses the whole country, largely on the A1. The driver joins the motorway at the Hengelo access or via the A35 near Borne and follows the A1 west past Deventer, Apeldoorn and Amersfoort.
Beyond Amersfoort the route stays on the A1 until the Muiderberg or Diemen interchange offers the Amsterdam ring, from where the A9 and the A4 lead to the Schiphol exit. Over the 166 kilometres you spend around 135 minutes off-peak.
The eastern half across the Veluwe usually flows well; congestion thickens as Amsterdam approaches, around Amersfoort and on the capital's ring, where the morning and evening rush can push the total well past two and a half hours.
Because of the distance, the pick-up is planned generously, leaving a solid buffer at check-in.
An early European flight at 07:00 means leaving Hengelo at 02:30. Schiphol advises 2 hours ahead, so you are at the airport by 05:00; the drive takes about 135 minutes off-peak, and the driver adds 15 minutes of slack.
At that hour the A1 past Apeldoorn and Amersfoort is clear, and the ring road near Amsterdam is empty too. Living in Borne puts you right at the junction with the A1 and the A35.

Pickup in and around Hengelo
All of Hengelo is collection territory: the centre around the Markt and the station, and districts such as Hasseler Es, Groot Driene, Slangenbeek and Woolde. Nearby Borne and the Beckum area fall inside the pick-up zone too.
