Taxi Den Helder to Schiphol

Virtually the whole route from Den Helder follows the N9 and the A9. The driver heads south out of the city over the N9 through the Kop van Noord-Holland, passing Schagen and Alkmaar, where the road becomes the A9.

That motorway continues via Heiloo, Uitgeest and Beverwijk towards the Haarlem area, finally meeting the A4 corridor at Badhoevedorp for the Schiphol exit. Allow about 84 minutes for the 88 kilometres outside the peaks.

The northern part over the N9 usually runs quietly; delays gather on the A9 around Alkmaar, Beverwijk and Badhoevedorp, where the morning and evening rush slows everything down. In those windows the journey can reach two hours.

Given the length and the risk of queues, your driver plans the pick-up generously so you check in with margin.

A 07:00 flight to a European destination means that, from Den Helder, your driver is at the door at 03:20. Schiphol advises two hours ahead, so you need to be inside at 05:00, and at that hour the 88 kilometres over the N9 and the A9 take around 84 minutes.

On top of that come 15 minutes of slack. The northern stretch through the top of North Holland, past Schagen, is quiet at night, and there is no rush-hour traffic around Alkmaar and Beverwijk yet.

An intercontinental flight at 19:00 is a different story. You want to be in the departures hall at 16:00, three hours ahead, which puts you in the afternoon traffic on the A9 around Alkmaar, Beverwijk and Badhoevedorp.

The planning allows for around 122 minutes plus a 15-minute margin, so you are collected at 13:40, in Julianadorp or Nieuw Den Helder as well as in the centre. If you are just off the ferry from Texel, the pick-up can also be at the ferry terminal.

Den Helder station forms the northern terminus of the railway towards Alkmaar and Schiphol, yet with luggage and an early flight a direct taxi is usually more comfortable than a train plus a change.
