The standard route leaves Heerhugowaard along the Zuidtangent and joins the N242, the provincial road that runs down the western edge of town (locally the Westerweg) and connects to the A9 at the Kooimeer interchange just south of Alkmaar.
From there it is a single straight run southwards: the A9 past Castricum and Uitgeest, through the Wijkertunnel under the North Sea Canal, and onto the Schiphol exit at the Badhoevedorp interchange. Outside the rush hour you are at the departure hall in around 50 minutes.
