Zaltbommel's trump card is its position: the fortress town on the Waal sits right on the A2 between Utrecht and Den Bosch, which makes the run to Schiphol surprisingly straightforward. Public transport is more roundabout here: from Zaltbommel station you ride towards Den Bosch or Utrecht and change onto the Schiphol line, with the legs either side soon nearing two hours. The taxi, by contrast, flows straight through.
You know the price completely in advance (VAT, luggage and parking at Schiphol included), which spares the arithmetic. Certainly with a party, or for a flight that has the car at your door at five in the morning, that beats the train.
Your route and departure time
The way to the motorway is short: via the Van Heemstraweg or the Steenweg you are on the A2 towards Utrecht within a few minutes. Over the Martinus Nijhoff bridge and along Geldermalsen and the Deil junction you continue to the Lek bridge at Vianen and the Utrecht ring.
Via the Holendrecht junction the road joins the A9, after which the Badhoevedorp junction delivers the A4 and the Schiphol exit. In the morning rush the Lek bridge at Vianen and the Utrecht ring are the best-known choke points; the driving time can then climb to about 96 minutes.
Because virtually the whole ride runs over the A2, the route stays simple to read, and your driver keeps an eye on the live pressure around Utrecht. The pick-up time is tuned to the rush window around your departure.
After that it is a straight line over the Martinus Nijhoffbrug, past the Deil junction and across the Lekbrug to Utrecht. Those last two decide whether you need to leave early. In the small hours they are empty, so for a European flight at 07:00, with Schiphol reached by 05:00, plan on about 74 minutes of driving.
Allow 15 minutes of slack as well and the car waits outside your door in the old town or De Vergt at 03:30. In Gameren, Bruchem, Kerkwijk or Nederhemert the ride starts on local roads to the A2.
For a flight to another continent at 19:00 you are at Schiphol by 16:00, three hours ahead. In the afternoon the Lekbrug and the Utrecht ring fill up and the trip takes about 96 minutes. Counting the 15 minutes of slack, the driver sets off from your door at 14:05.

For a 07:00 flight you want to be at Schiphol around 05:00, two hours ahead. At that early hour the ride from Zaltbommel takes about 74 minutes, so a pick-up around 03:30 gives ample margin. That early the A2 is empty and the ride runs smoothly, with no night surcharge.
Are the villages around Zaltbommel served too?
Yes, all the villages of the Zaltbommel municipality fall under the same fixed prices, from Gameren and Bruchem to Kerkwijk and Nederhemert. From those villages your driver first heads for the A2 slip road; the driving time runs slightly higher than from the fortress town itself, but the price stays the same.
Can I travel on business to Schiphol from the De Wildeman estate?
Yes. De Wildeman lies along the A2, so you are on the motorway quickly. Note in the booking comments which entrance or company it is. You pay online before the ride and get a VAT invoice for the company accounts.

The Van is a Mercedes V-Class or similar with eight seats and costs €175 for the whole ride, so nobody pays per head. If travellers come from the old town and from De Vergt, agree on one pick-up address. The driver drops the whole group together at the departures hall.
How long is the ride back to Zaltbommel after an evening landing?
Outside busy traffic you are back in about 74 minutes via the A4, the A9 and the A2. Landing in the evening rush, the stretch over the Utrecht ring and the A2 can take longer. Your flight is tracked live, and after landing the driver waits for you 60 minutes free of charge.
