Leerdam, the glass town deep in the river country, lies well outside the Randstad, and that shows in the journey to Schiphol. With a fixed Comfort rate from €170 you cover the 77 kilometres in around 68 minutes outside the rush hours.
Public transport is laborious here: the town has a station on the MerwedeLingelijn, but towards Schiphol a change at Geldermalsen or Utrecht almost always follows, easily putting you at an hour and a half or more with cases.
A fixed fare known in advance (including VAT, luggage and the parking charges at the airport) removes a lot of uncertainty over such a distance. Travelling with several people, or leaving at night for an early flight, the door-to-door ride is usually both calmer and better value than the puzzle of trains and buses.
Your route and departure time
From Leerdam your driver mostly takes the N848 or the Parallelweg to the A15 heading west. Past the Gorinchem junction and along Sliedrecht you continue to the Ridderkerk junction, where the route bends north via the A15 and A16 and comes out on the A4 towards the Schiphol exit.
A common alternative runs east via the A2 past Vianen and Utrecht, picking up the A9 and A4 there; which variant wins depends on the hour. In the morning rush the A15 around Gorinchem and the Utrecht ring are the congestion-prone stretches, pushing the driving time towards the 89 minutes at the top of the peak band.
Drivers know this corridor and choose the quietest road on the day itself. Your pick-up time is tuned to the rush window around your departure, leaving you breathing room at check-in.
From Leerdam the driver has two routes. One runs via the N848 or the Parallelweg to the A15, then west past Gorinchem and Sliedrecht to the Ridderkerk junction, the A16 and the A4. The other goes east over the A2 past Vianen and Utrecht.
Which is quicker depends on the hour. Flying within Europe at 07:00, plan to reach Schiphol by 05:00, two hours ahead. At that time the roads are calm and the drive takes about 68 minutes, so with 15 minutes of slack your pick-up is 03:35.
On the southern side, close to the A15, your driving time sits at the short end; from the outlying hamlets it pays to plan a little more generously.
For a long-haul flight at 19:00 you need to be ready to check in at 16:00, three hours ahead. Allow about 89 minutes and add 15 minutes of slack, which gives a pick-up at 14:15. However early or late you leave, Comfort is a fixed €170, with no night, weekend or rush-hour surcharge.

How much longer does the ride take when I leave in the rush hour?
Off-peak you cover the 77 kilometres in around 68 minutes. In the morning or evening rush that can stretch to about 89 minutes, chiefly through pressure on the A15 near Gorinchem and around Utrecht. Departing in the peak, plan half an hour of extra margin on top of your normal check-in time.
Would the train from Leerdam be the better choice?
Leerdam has a station on the MerwedeLingelijn, but towards Schiphol you almost always change at Geldermalsen or Utrecht. With cases that soon means an hour and a half or more. Travelling alone and light, the train can be economical; with luggage, a party or an early flight, the direct taxi is usually handier.
Can I pick someone up on the way to Schiphol?
Yes, an extra stop en route is possible: collecting a fellow traveller in Gorinchem or Vianen, for instance. Pass on the address in the booking remarks so the pick-up time and route are adjusted in advance and you still check in on time.
Do you drive at night from Leerdam for an early flight?
Certainly. For the first departures a pick-up around 04:00 is perfectly normal; at that hour the A15 is empty and you achieve the shortest driving time. No night surcharge applies, so you pay the fixed price from €170 you saw at booking.
