Your ride from IJmuiden
From IJmuiden you reach Schiphol faster than you might expect: a driver collects you at home — from Oud-IJmuiden to Zee- en Duinwijk — and outside the rush hour you are standing at the departure hall after around 30 minutes. For this journey Schipholride charges a fixed all-in price from €70 (Comfort, VW Passat or similar), with VAT, luggage and the parking costs at Schiphol already included. Premium is €85 (Mercedes E-Class or similar), a Van for 5 to 8 people is €95 (V-Class or similar) and VIP is €140 (S-Class or similar). Because IJmuiden has no train station of its own, a door-to-door ride is especially handy here: no bus to Beverwijk or Haarlem first, no dragging suitcases between connections. You book online, see the full amount straight away and can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure — and there is no night surcharge.
The 27 kilometres to Schiphol are covered mostly on the motorway. From IJmuiden you follow the Amsterdamseweg (N202) along the North Sea Canal to the A22 at Velsen, which runs through the Velsertunnel and merges into the A9 towards Amstelveen at the Velsen interchange. At the Raasdorp interchange the driver switches to the A5, which leads you straight past the Polderbaan runway to the terminal. Outside the rush hour this takes around 30 minutes; during the morning and evening peak the journey can stretch to roughly 45 minutes, above all on the A9 between Velsen and the Rottepolderplein and around Raasdorp. If the A9 is congested or there are roadworks, there is an alternative via Haarlem and the N205, though it is rarely quicker. Your driver keeps an eye on the live traffic situation and chooses the best moment to set off, so you are at the right departure hall in good time.
Pick-up in IJmuiden
A driver collects you anywhere in IJmuiden: IJmuiden-Noord, IJmuiden-Zuid, IJmuiden-West with Oud-IJmuiden and the harbour district, and Zee- en Duinwijk. Being picked up at the waterfront is no problem either — for example at the DFDS ferry terminal after the overnight crossing from Newcastle, or at the Seaport Marina after a sailing trip; just mention the quay or the terminal entrance when you book. If you work in the harbour area or at one of the companies along the North Sea Canal, the driver can pick you up there just as easily as at your front door.

Pick-up from Schiphol
If you land at Schiphol, your flight is tracked live: if it is delayed your pick-up time shifts with it, and you get 60 minutes of free waiting time after landing. That suits IJmuiden well: late in the evening there is barely any public transport left towards the coast, whereas your driver simply takes you all the way to your own front door — with no night surcharge and the same fixed price.
Frequently asked questions
What pick-up time should I allow in IJmuiden for the earliest morning flights?+
Count back from your flight time: for an 08:00 departure you want to be at Schiphol around 06:00, allowing a good two hours for check-in and security. With roughly 30 minutes of driving that means a pick-up around 05:15 to 05:30. Early rides cost nothing extra at Schipholride — there is no night surcharge, and the price stays the same whatever the hour.
Is a taxi from IJmuiden worth it compared with the train?+
IJmuiden has no train station of its own, so by public transport you first take a bus towards Beverwijk or Haarlem and change at least once. A door-to-door taxi takes you straight from your front door to the departure hall, which makes a real difference with luggage, a group, or an early or late flight when buses to the coast barely run.
Can I be collected at the DFDS ferry terminal after arriving from Newcastle?+
Yes. If you step off the overnight DFDS crossing from Newcastle at the IJmuiden ferry terminal, Schipholride arranges an onward ride to the airport for you. Give the terminal entrance or quay when you book, so the driver is waiting in the right spot; the same applies to passengers arriving at the Seaport Marina by boat.
How busy is the route on the A9 and A5 towards Schiphol?+
Outside the rush hour you travel via the A22, A9 and A5 to Schiphol in around 30 minutes. During the morning and evening peak that can rise to roughly 45 minutes, particularly on the A9 towards the Raasdorp interchange. Your driver plans the departure around the live traffic, so you still reach the right departure hall comfortably on time.
Which vehicle suits our group travelling from IJmuiden?+
For 1 to 4 people Comfort (VW Passat or similar, €70) is roomy enough; for extra comfort choose Premium with a Mercedes E-Class or similar (€85). Travelling with 5 to 8 people — perhaps a group trip or a crew change at the harbour — you book the V-Class Van (€95). VIP in an S-Class or similar is €140, with luggage and parking included.
