The northernmost of Friesland's eleven cities, Dokkum, is also one of the furthest Schipholride departures in the province: 177 kilometres to the airport, around 145 minutes off-peak and up to roughly 188 in the rush hour.
The fixed totals: €265 in Comfort (VW Passat or similar), €330 in Premium (Mercedes E-Class or similar), €345 for the Van seating 5-8 people (V-Class or similar) and €575 in VIP (S-Class or similar). Like Drachten, Dokkum has no railway station, so a flight otherwise starts with a bus; a taxi collecting you at home is the obvious alternative.
The fare is known in advance, with VAT, luggage and the Schiphol parking charges included and no night supplement. Cancelling is free as long as it happens at least 24 hours before pick-up.
From Dokkum the driver first follows the N356 (the Centrale As) towards Leeuwarden, then picks up the A31 and the A7 across the Afsluitdijk towards Noord-Holland. On the far side at Den Oever the A7 continues past Hoorn and Purmerend, until the A4 towards the terminal is reached via the A10 ring or the A8.
Off-peak this takes around 145 minutes. The opening kilometres on provincial roads take their share of time; further on, the Afsluitdijk is sensitive to wind and roadworks, and the section around Purmerend and the Amsterdam ring can jam, lifting the rush-hour journey to roughly 188 minutes.
Tight flight times are therefore planned with a generous margin.
Pick-up in Dokkum

True, Dokkum has no railway station. Without a taxi you would first ride a bus to Leeuwarden and change onto the train there, cases and all. A taxi collects you at home instead and covers the door-to-door journey to Schiphol in around 145 minutes. For this northern city that is far and away the easiest way to make a flight.
Am I collected in Kollum or Holwerd too?+
Yes: Kollum, Holwerd, Damwâld, Ternaard and the other villages belong to the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân and fall under the same fixed price of €265 in Comfort. Returning from Ameland via the Holwerd ferry port, the driver can pick you up there as well. Give your address at booking and the time is arranged.
When must I leave for an early flight from Dokkum?+
Without traffic the journey lasts around 145 minutes. To reach the airport around 06:00 for an 08:00 flight, the driver collects you at about a quarter past three. That keeps you ahead of the morning bustle near Purmerend and the Amsterdam ring, at the ordinary tariff with no night surcharge.
And if my return flight towards Dokkum lands later?+
