Your route and departure time
From Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel the ascent to the A20 is short: via the 's-Gravenweg or the connection at Nieuwerkerk you're quickly on the motorway towards Gouda. At the Gouwe interchange the driver picks the A12 or via the N207 the way to the Haarlemmermeer and the A4, with the Schiphol exit as endpoint.
An alternative runs via the A20 westbound towards the A13 and the A4. The sensitive point is on the A20 and the Gouwe interchange: those regularly jam in the morning and evening peak with traffic to and from Rotterdam.
If the A20 is at a standstill, the driver can divert via the parallel routes through the Zuidplaspolder. Outside rush hour you stay around three quarters of an hour with those 53 kilometres; in the peak it can rise towards an hour.
