Your route and departure time
From Houten the driver follows the Rondweg out to the A27 towards Utrecht. At the Lunetten interchange the route joins the A12 along the southern edge of Utrecht, then picks up the A2 towards Amsterdam at Oudenrijn.
The final stretch runs over the A9 at the Holendrecht interchange, past Amstelveen, to the Schiphol exit. The weak link on this journey is the Utrecht ring: between Lunetten and Oudenrijn the A12 regularly grinds to a halt on weekdays from 07:00 to 09:30 and again from 16:00 to 18:30, and the A9 near Amstelveen has its own heavy morning peak.
A driver who runs this route often builds margin in for exactly that, and if there is an accident can switch to the A2-A10 as an alternative. Outside the rush hour it is a smooth run of around 55 minutes; in the busiest windows the travel time can climb to roughly 80.

What is the smartest departure time from Houten for an early-morning flight?
Work back from your departure: allow a good two hours for check-in and security, plus around 55 minutes of driving outside the rush hour. For an 08:00 flight that puts your pick-up near 05:00. If your trip falls inside the morning peak between 07:00 and 09:30, count on up to roughly 80 minutes on the road and set off earlier.
Is there a direct train from Houten to Schiphol?
No. From Houten station you always change at Utrecht Centraal, where a direct intercity then runs to Schiphol. With luggage, children or a flight before 06:00 a door-to-door car is often more practical, and with 5 to 8 people sharing a Van the cost per person works out comparable to the train.
Where in Houten can a driver collect me?

Will the Utrecht ring road hold up my journey to Schiphol?
The Lunetten to Oudenrijn section of the A12 is the busiest part of the route, especially between 07:00 and 09:30 and again from 16:00 to 18:30. Outside those windows you flow through nicely via the A2 and A9.
The driver knows the alternatives and builds in extra margin for rush-hour trips, so there is no last-minute stress.

Yes. At the vehicle step of the booking form, select a Maxi-Cosi (infant seat) or toddler seat: €15 once per booking. Your driver will have the seat ready and installed.
