Grave, a small and compact fortified town on the Maas within the Land van Cuijk, has no railway station, and that shapes the journey to Schiphol, some 125 kilometres away. By public transport you first catch a bus to Nijmegen or to Cuijk station and change there, which soon stretches the door-to-door trip to two and a half hours.

Your route and departure time
From Grave the journey runs along the N324 towards Oss or the N321 to the A73 at Cuijk. The driver then heads for Nijmegen and takes the A15, or goes via Arnhem onto the A12 towards Utrecht. The two options meet on the Utrecht ring, from where the A2, the Holendrecht interchange and the A9 carry you to the A4 and the Schiphol exit.
Congestion gathers mainly around Nijmegen, on the A15 and on the Utrecht ring; in the morning crush the trip can lengthen to roughly 135 minutes. Which road runs best that day is decided from the live traffic picture around Nijmegen and Utrecht.
Across this distance the pick-up moment always carries a generous margin against your departure time.
From Grave the car leaves along one of two roads: the N324 towards Oss, or the N321 to the A73 at Cuijk. After that it heads towards Nijmegen and on over the A15, or via Arnhem over the A12. On the north side, near the N324 and the road to Nijmegen, the trip is a little shorter; from Velp, Escharen or Gassel it is worth allowing a bit more time.
At night the whole ride takes about 104 minutes. A European flight at 07:00 means you want to be at Schiphol by 05:00, two hours ahead as the airport recommends. With 15 minutes of slack added, you book the pick-up for 03:00 at your address in the old fortress or in Estersveld.
For a long-haul flight at 19:00 you are at Schiphol three hours ahead, at 16:00, and the ride can then take about 135 minutes. Once 15 minutes of slack is added, the pick-up falls at 13:30. No, the town has no station. You first take a bus to Nijmegen or to Cuijk station on the Maas line and change there; with all the changes you are soon two and a half hours under way. A direct taxi from €180 collects you at home and spares you that changing about with your luggage.
How much time does the ride from Grave take?
Without rush-hour traffic you cover the good 120 kilometres in about 104 minutes, via Nijmegen and the Utrecht ring. In the morning or evening crush that can head towards 135 minutes through traffic around Nijmegen and Utrecht.
