The old harbour town of Zierikzee on Schouwen-Duiveland looks out over the Oosterschelde from one of Zeeland's best-preserved historic centres, watched over by the imposing Sint-Lievensmonstertoren. Tourists come for the Oosterschelde and the beaches of Schouwen; residents reach Schiphol via the N59, the Grevelingendam and the A29: 123 kilometres, around 107 minutes outside the rush.

Your route and departure time
From Zierikzee the route crosses Schouwen-Duiveland and the Zeeland islands towards the A29. The driver leaves the island via the N59 towards Bruinisse and crosses the Grevelingendam towards Goeree-Overflakkee.
The A29 then runs past Dinteloord and Oud-Beijerland towards Rotterdam, and the A4 continues past The Hague, north to Leiden and the Schiphol exit. Outside the busy hours the 123 kilometres take about 107 minutes.
The island section is usually calm; the delay concentrates on the A29 and A4 around Rotterdam and The Hague, where rush hour can push the total well past two hours. Given the distance and the island crossings, the driver plans the pick-up with a wide margin, so you check in unhurried.

In the afternoon rush the drive from Zierikzee can take about 140 minutes, so the driver collects you at 13:25, with 15 minutes of slack inside that. From Bruinisse the N59 brings you quickly to the Grevelingendam, while from Renesse or Burgh-Haamstede on the western side of the island the approach takes longer.
A European flight at 07:00 is simpler to plan. You are at the airport by 05:00, 2 hours ahead, and leave at 02:55: about 107 minutes across the islands and along the A29 off-peak, plus the same 15 minutes of slack.

The whole of Zierikzee is served: the historic centre with its harbour channel, gates and narrow streets, and the residential districts and new-build areas at the edges. Nearby centres on Schouwen-Duiveland (Burgh-Haamstede, Renesse, Brouwershaven and Bruinisse) fall within the collection area as well.
