Past the Hoevelaken interchange you follow the A1 towards Amsterdam and then the A9, which runs through Amstelveen and reaches the Schiphol exit almost directly at the Badhoevedorp interchange. In total that is 196 kilometres, the vast majority of it motorway, and outside the rush hour you rarely come to a standstill. The busy stretches all sit in the second half: the A28 around Zwolle and between Nijkerk and Amersfoort, the Hoevelaken interchange, the A1 through Het Gooi and the A9 near Amstelveen. In the morning peak towards the Randstad the total journey can therefore stretch to around 210 minutes. If you live on the eastern side of the municipality, for example in Klazienaveen, you join the A37 via the N862; from the centre and the western neighbourhoods the ring road puts you on the motorway within a few minutes.

Bear in mind that the train back to Emmen always involves a change in Zwolle, so if you land late in the evening a taxi is usually the more practical choice for those 196 kilometres home.
