Five checks before you book

Also look for recent reviews on more than one platform, and at Schiphol only get in at the official taxi rank, the App pick-up point or the taxi you booked yourself, never with someone who offers you a ride unasked.

  • Company details: a company name, address and Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number on the website or in the confirmation.
  • A phone number you can also call outside office hours, and an email confirmation with date, time, pickup address and price.
  • A price including VAT that is fixed in advance, or the agreement that the ride runs on the meter. According to the Dutch government, a fixed price must be agreed before the ride starts.
  • Terms for cancelling, changing and no-shows that you can read before you pay.
  • Reviews on more than one platform, with recent dates (see below).

How to read a taxi company's reviews

Number and date

Ten reviews from years ago say little. Check how many reviews were added in recent months.

More than one platform

Compare Google, Trustpilot and Tripadvisor. A company that scores about the same everywhere is more reliable than one with a high score in one place.

Read the low scores

Are the complaints about late drivers, no-shows or a different price than agreed? Those are the points that matter most on a ride to Schiphol.

Does the company reply

A company that replies to complaints politely and to the point will probably also sort out a problem with your ride.

In the taxi: what you can expect

A taxi in the Netherlands has a blue number plate, an on-board computer and a taxi meter, and passengers must be able to see the driver card in the taxi. The taxi company holds a taxi permit from Kiwa Register (Dutch government business portal).

Without a fixed price the taxi runs on the meter; on the meter, statutory maximum fares apply in 2026: for a regular car a starting fare of €4.31, €3.17 per kilometre and €0.52 per minute (Dutch government). At the official rank at Schiphol you can pay contactless in every taxi and you get a receipt (Schiphol).

At Schiphol: tips against unsolicited taxis

  • In the terminal, follow the signs and floor stickers to the official taxi rank in front of Schiphol Plaza (Schiphol).
  • Check that the taxi has a meter showing the price (Schiphol).
  • Do not take a taxi that is offered to you unasked (Schiphol).
  • Uber and Bolt pick up at the App pick-up point, stops E1 to E6; a booked taxi at the spot in your confirmation. More about the rank on Schiphol taxi rank.

If the taxi does not show up

First call the number in your confirmation, and keep the confirmation and your proof of payment. If you are at Schiphol and nobody comes, taxis are always waiting at the official rank. Leaving home for an early flight? Allow plenty of time, so you can still take another taxi. See when to leave for Schiphol.

Questions about a reliable taxi to Schiphol

How do I know a taxi is legal in the Netherlands?

A legal taxi has a blue number plate, an on-board computer and a taxi meter, and the driver holds a driver card (chauffeurskaart) that you must be able to see in the car. The taxi company holds a taxi permit from Kiwa Register. If in doubt, do not get in.

What is an unlicensed taxi or 'snorder'?

A snorder is someone offering taxi rides without a licence, often by approaching travellers directly. At Schiphol, the airport advises not to take a taxi offered to you unasked and to follow the signs to the official rank.

Is a taxi from the Schiphol taxi rank reliable?

The official rank is in front of Schiphol Plaza. According to Schiphol, taxis there run with an on-board computer, you can pay contactless in every taxi, you get a receipt and drivers may not refuse rides. You pay what the meter shows, within the legal maximum.

How do I check a taxi company's reviews?

Look at the number and date of the reviews, compare more than one platform (Google, Trustpilot, Tripadvisor) and read the low scores in particular. Are they about no-shows or a different price, and does the company respond?

What do I do if my taxi to Schiphol does not show up?

Call the number in your confirmation straight away. If that does not solve it, take another taxi or the train, keep your receipts and report it to the company in writing afterwards. For an early flight, plan enough slack for a second taxi.
